Los Angeles Audition Tips

Your Audition’s Secret Weapon tips for auditions

By: Deena Nissley

Today we’re here to help you with the quintessential Los Angeles experience.

No, we don’t mean spotting Jason Priestley in line with soy milk at Ralphs—we mean totally nailing your lines at your next big audition. (And even if you don’t have a next big audition, you may want to land one after you see this app.)

Introducing Rehearsal, helping you get from the callback to the set, now available.

Basically, it’s a little like having Stella Adler in your pocket (or at least the housekeeper you normally run lines with). When your agent sends over your sides, just import them into the app and start breaking down your character, wherever you are. You can highlight your lines, black them out to see if you remember all of them, and record yourself and play it back until you get the inflection/smoldering intensity just how you want it.

And if there’s something you want to use for motivation at a particular turn—a lazing palm tree, a plastic bag dancing in the wind, a mirror—you can capture a quick photo or video, and attach it to the relevant bit of dialogue.

We’d say you’re a lock for Pedestrian #3.

Every Man Must Thank his Faults

Words from Emerson

By: Gary Kriegerralph waldo emerson

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “As every man had ever a point of pride that was not injurious to him, so no man had ever a defect that was not somewhere made useful to him…Every man in his lifetime needs to thank his faults.”  Likewise, the faults of the market offer opportunities to those who pay attention.  And, we must thank those faults and pay attention to what they offer us.

Today on the radio I heard an economist say by 2012 we’ll be back to normal.  Recovery will have taken hold and the stock market will thrive.  Now, we all know that economists are notorious for digging themselves into holes and then explaining how they get out of the holes, but more and more economists are predicting recovery in the not-so-distant future.  That leaves opportunity for savvy people to buy real estate now, before the market heats up again.  And, those who do will likely reap the profits from those purchases.  2012?  2013?  2014?  We really don’t know.  But we do know that historically, in Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Tarzana and Woodland Hills, for example, the markets have always rebounded and have always gone higher than the previous highs.  I hope this is helpful…

The Effects of Clutter

No two ways about it: Clutter is toxicclutter

By: Lisa Stanley

Share/Bookmark

It can affect your mood, state of being, health and even your weight. The statistics prove that people with a lot of clutter are more tired, lethargic and are actually living in a state of confusion. Further, they statistically are more overweight. Clearing the clutter will put a few bucks in your pocket, because the other clutter hounds will buy your junk at the garage sale you will have, lighten your spirit and clear your mind, leaving room for new good. Think how wonderful it will feel to have a home that you are proud to have people visit, as opposed to one that brings panic when people show up unannounced. Just writing this makes me want to go home right now and purge unwanted items out of my house. In fact, I will. I am already feeling lighter. Hopefully, my pants will be looser soon as well.

Hollywood Sign Covered

138 acres of prime Southern California real estate…5d3cae05-d9ba-46d4-84a8-64f13a2dbe1e.h2

By: Erika Kaufmann

Once owned by Howard Hughes, the Cahuenga Peak or the Hollywood Sign is receiving ample attention. The land was purchased in 2002 by a group of Chicago investors for $1.7 million. Last month, however, the group put the land back on the market, with an asking price of $22 million.

The land atop the 1,820-foot Cahuenga Peak consists of five legal lots that allow for construction of homes. Some people in Hollywood are understandably distraught at the pressing idea of mansions emerging around an indelible landmark. To slow the process, LA City councilman Tom LaBonge and other residents are now fighting to ensure that the land remain free of any other eyesores.

The problem, however, is the city cannot legally pay more than the assessed value of $6 million for the land. Therefore, LaBlonge is approaching independent investors in hopes to raise the needed funds.
